Colorant for Food

colorant for food

Carmine, annatto and yacon are some of our most requested products.

The Peruvian exports of carmine from cochineal extract in the first five months of 2018 already exceed 1,200 tons. Carmine, the most important food coloring together with annatto and yacon, is one of the three products that Imbarex sells the most. All three are frequently requested by different industries around the world.

Carmine is produced both as powder and liquid, providing a wide range of colors that go from pink to violet. In the food industry, this natural color is used in cold cuts, beverages, ice-creams, yoghurts, jams, sweets, among others. This coloring is also frequently used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

On the other hand, the natural colors that are currently requested the most by the industry are annatto and its varieties, bixin and norbixin. Its color may range from yellow to orange, and its derivatives include powder, liquid and oil suspension. It is used in cheese, margarines, smoked fish or for flavoring (in the case of ground achiote seeds).

Yacon is also a natural product that is frecuently requested by our clients. It is a tuber that grows in the Peruvian Andes, which stands out due to its typical sweet flavor. Imbarex has yacon syrup, which is rich in probiotics and whose components are known for not increasing the level of glucose in blood, which is the reason why it is widely used by people who suffer from diabetes.

During the 18 years that we have been operating in the market, we have exported our products for the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, among others, to more than 50 countries. We have our own crops, which allow us to ensure the stock for our clients and comply with the highest international quality standards.
