Annatto is a natural coloring characterized by providing an orange tone to Cheddar cheese and other food products that use a yellow-to-orange color, such as drinks, snacks, milk products, among others.
Many mass consumption products use achiote due to its bright color. Annatto IMBAREX by-products include presentations in powder, liquid and oil suspension.
One of the types of Annatto is the Liquid Norbixin IMBAREX, which is a dark brown liquid solution obtained from Achiote (Bixa Orellana) seeds. The pigment is extracted using an alkaline aqueous method, followed by a neutralization with inorganic acid, and finally diluted in a base solution. After this process, stabilizing agents are added.
This food coloring is designed for its use in products, such as juices and drinks, fruit products, yogurts, and desserts in general. It provides a yellow to orange tone to the final product, depending on the type of product, process and amount used.
Liquid Norbixin IMBAREX is water-soluble. In order to use it properly, shake the product before using it, since the pigment may settle during its storage. It can be added to the target product while shaking. If color must be diluted before its use, it is recommended to use soft or distilled water. If you don’t have any of this, add just before its application. Recommended amount 0.05 – 0.1 %.
If the product is kept away from direct sunlight or high temperatures, in a cool (5°C – 15°C), dry and well-ventilated place, and with the container properly closed, it will preserve its properties for up to six months.
This natural coloring fully complies with JECFA’s specifications for identity and purity, EU’s Regulation No. 231/2012/EC, and subsequent amendments for E160b (ii).
Liquid Norbixin IMBAREX is approved by FDA and meets the provisions of the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Parts 73.30, 73.1030 and 73.2030. This is not a GMO product, and no GMO ingredient is contained in this product, nor has been used during its production. No specification is required to be included on the label in this regard.
